The “Youth for a Just Transition” project aims to promote youth engagement in climate action and in shaping the just transition process of their countries affected by the switch to renewable energy sources from fossil fuels, by offering young people opportunities to engage in discussions and action related to climate and environment.
By engaging young people, including young women and youth belonging to vulnerable social groups, the project embraces the concept that emphasizes the importance of addressing social justice, gender equality and equity in climate action and in the just transition process.
Organization Earth leads the project along with 4 partners, which are all located in countries with just transition regions (GR, ES, RO, DK, LT).
The project activities use a bottom-up approach, non-formal educational methods, in a gender inclusive and non-discriminatory environment. They involve international activities enabling exchange among young EU citizens, such as the “Just Transition Youth Ambassadors”, and local awareness-raising activities, such as Open Labs, ‘Earth Dialogues’ public debates, Climate Action events as well as awareness-raising videos and an Online Hub. They also engage them in policy design process through the collection of their views in order to actively contribute to a policy recommendation on the role of youth engagement in the just transition process and when tackling climate crisis.
Approximately 10.000 people will be benefited from the project, while 1710 will participate in the activities. A total of 1000 young people
will actively participate in the activities, out of which at least 50% will be young women and 20% will be youth from vulnerable social groups.
By elaborating an integrated framework that enhances coherence between youth engagement and climate action, all aforementioned activities will be tested in the context of the proposed project and could be replicated in other EU regions going through the just transition process.
